Ignominious

Ignominious: to be disgraced and to face shame publicly
The funniest thing happened to me
—Less of a joke; more of a cosmic irony—
Like when the blind are made to see spontaneously
Or the self-enslaved are made free
Without a campaign or a plea
Like when a kingdom is handed over voluntarily
Like when there is only One who is not guilty
When that perfect One sacrifices Himself on a tree
When the Omnipotent allows the impotent to drive nails through His feet
…So do you see?…
The ignominious one was not Him; it was me
Taking my place He gave me His seat
With blood leaking bleakly He secured my victory
He looked death and sin in the eyes until they couldn’t see
Seemingly defeated, lying still in a tomb
Until the Creator re-created and resurrected, kicking death out of the dead room
Having secured my forgiveness
—His grace being too relentless—
He pressed on, winning my life forevermore
And handing it over once again to the one He adored
Secured and victorious, He substituted Himself and still made a way
By speaking the truth He gave His life on that day
Murdering death and crushing sin and blame
He disgraced my shame, and made “grace” my name
Ignominious and rejected, that is what you might see
But the public dissolution of His life was love gifted unconditionally
